Outlook Express Setup for Bigpond and Optusnet Users

These steps and settings will help you to setup Outlook Express to receive mail from your email account with Basic Data Solutions if your ISP is Bigpond or Optusnet, or your ISP doesn't allow you to send email using another account.

Note:

  • POP3 and SMTP server settings apply only to email accounts with Basic Data Solutions.
  • Replace [username] with your own username, and [domain] with your own domain name. For example, jane.doe@mysite.com.au.
1. Click the Tools menu and select Accounts ...
2. Click Add and select Mail...
3. Enter the display name at Step 1 of the wizard, and click Next >
4. Enter your email address at Step 2 of the wizard and click Next >
5. Enter mail.basicdatasolutions.com.au for Incoming mail (POP3) and your ISP's SMTP setting for Outgoing mail (SMTP) at Step 3 of the wizard and click Next >
6. Enter [username]@[domain] into Account name, and your password into Password, make sure Remember password is checked, click Next > and click Finish
7. Once you've returned to the Internet Accounts dialog list, select the account mail.basicdatasolutions.com.au and click the Properties button.
8. On the General tab, modify mail.basicdatasolutions.com.au to something that will make it easier to identify the mail account in the previous list.
9. Click Apply and click OK. Click Close to close the Internet Accounts list dialog.
